Future Leaders in Progress, also known as FLIP, was founded in 2018 by Lisiate (Ritchie) Unga and  Junior Lualua as Co-Directors.

Our goals and objectives are to fill the gaps and improve the health, education, justice and employment prospects of vulnerable youth in our communities. Alongside our youth support initiatives, FLIP have expanded its services to empower and assist clients with a range of disabilities to reach their goals and fulfil their highest potential. This is done through individual tailored support carried out  by our experienced and highly competent staff.

Working with families in Canberra and surrounds, we pride ourselves on the ability to cater and personalise the support we are able to provide as a small family run business. Understanding that no two people are the same and to ensure that each person is treated with dignity, respect and given the choice to shape their future.

Richie Unga came into contact with our son and things immediately looked up. Prior, we had sought support from 21 significant people /organisations who were unable to blend the connection with the action.

Richie made the connection and followed up with practical meetings such as registering with Centrelink in case of homelessness, or taking him to job interviews and sport. I have no idea what they chatted about when they were together, but now our son has a full time job, a car and licence, and still lives at home.

At 17 years old he has not completely turned his back on his ‘wild’ ways, but at least Richie is still in contact.

FLIP are an amazing service that among other things provides supports for people with a disability. Our family has been using the supports provided by FLIP to assist our son who has multiple disabilities and mental health issues to interact in the community in varying ways. The owner of FLIPS understood how important continuity of care was to us and immediately set us up with several key workers in case one person is unavailable to ensure scheduled care arrangements would always take place.

The service provided by these key workers is exceptional, they are always so professional, reliable and courteous. They work alongside our sons allied health professionals and follow through with every day activities designed to meet specific goals in his plans. They are also paramount in providing extra opportunities for our son to practice new skills out in the community and at home. At times our son can display some very challenging behaviours and we have found that each of his key workers have always remained calm and patient and are always encouraging and reassuring. They always treat our son with dignity and respect even when things get tough and show their resourcefulness by looking at alternative solutions to any presenting issue. Truly showing the meaning of the word integrity.

The most important factor to us is our son enjoys ‘hanging out’ with them and is comfortable with all of his key workers at FLIP. They have even become a bit of a role model for him and looks forward to each time they come.

I would highly recommend FLIP to anyone looking for support to assist in providing care for someone with a disability.
